I’ve packed up my life in Far Rockaway, Queens NY, and set my sights on a fresh start in the South Loop area of Chicago because of love. Dating Pam for over a year starting becoming a lot so we decided to make a relationship more stable and me moving to chicago seem like a better fit than her moving to New York. I wanted a change anyway after living in the big apple for 48 years and I’ve started to fall in love with Chicago and its charm.
If you’re wondering how a New Yorker adjusts to life in the Windy City, let me tell you—it feels like I never left home! The buzz and the energy here are so reminiscent of the Big Apple; I fell in love almost instantly from the first time I visited Pam.
Chicago, much like New York, is a city of towering skyscrapers, bustling streets, and an undying spirit. Walking through the Loop, you’ll feel the vibrant pulse similar to that of Lower Manhattan. The streets are lined with theaters, restaurants, and galleries that remind me of those of Broadway and the Museum Mile. Speaking of museums, the Art Institute of Chicago brings me fond memories of afternoons spent wandering the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The best part? The lakeshore! It might not be the ocean, but Lake Michigan’s vast, breathtaking expanse has its own allure, mirroring the endless Atlantic horizon I used to watch from Rockaway Beach. I grew up on Rockaway beach so now living so close to the lake front reminds me of living a block away from the beach growing up. It’s in these little pieces of Chicago that I find big chunks of New York, making my new setting feel just like my old stomping grounds. Every skyscraper, every street corner feels like a little piece of home to me. I sometimes think to myself that the only thing missing is my friends and family.
I guess this blog post is a love letter to both cities. It’s a shared celebration of their beautiful charm and unique character.
Join me as I continue to uncover the the beauty of Chicago, one delightful discovery at a time, the blog will showcase my adventures in this beautiful city but I will always keep a huge piece of my heart in New York. This transition has been a whirl of emotions, but here in Chicago, I’m thrilled to say, I’m right where I belong.
Truly Yours,
Day
