I’m Davone, or just “Day” for short, and I’m excited to welcome you to my very first blog entry. If you’re seeking a place where heart, humor, and hustle meet, you’ve definitely come to the right spot.
I was born in the vibrant and raw streets of New York, but now I call Chicago home. My journey has led me through various roles and experiences that have shaped who I am today: a spirited mom, a loving grandmother, a steadfast life partner, and a pioneering businesswoman. Now, a little over 50, I’ve embraced a profound truth: I am more than enough—I am HER! It took me a long time to say that, and we’ll talk more about it in this blog.
In this blog, I’m opening the door to “Day’s World,” a space where I get real about life’s intricacies. From personal anecdotes to reflections on society, you’ll get an unfiltered peek into my thoughts.
A little more about me, for those curious minds: My professional path has been anything but conventional. Starting in corporate America, I quickly realized my passion for community as I founded Dollhouse Enterprises Inc., igniting a network for professional lesbian women. Recognized as one of the “Top 100 Lesbians” and featured across major publications, my journey shifted when I co-founded PXD Media & Entertainment with my incredible life partner, PJ. Together, we are on a mission to amplify queer and marginalized voices through gripping stories and innovative media. We’re currently pitching a lesbian reality dating show we executive produced with our close friend Tori Davis. Our podcast is our newest venture, and we are extremely excited about it. It not only allows us to open up about our journey in life and love but to share what we’ve learned along the way with you.
Beyond the boardroom, I’m deeply invested in social justice with Allies At Work, the parent company of the Book Clubs co-founded with my business partner, Brandi Smith. It is an initiative born from the necessity to transform allies into active accomplices in fighting racism and supporting marginalized communities.
Through this blog, I plan to share the layers of my life and the lessons I’ve gathered along this vibrant journey. I’m blessed to have amassed almost 52 years of wisdom, life lessons, failures, success, love, heartbreaks, marriages, divorces, and everything in between. You see, even with the words that might seem negative, I started that sentence off with “I’m blessed.” All of those experiences were blessings because they made me the woman I am today. Even with the failures, I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world.
First and foremost, I love me. From loving deeply as the matriarch of my family to fighting tirelessly for justice, each post will aim to connect, inspire, and maybe even provoke thought… I hope!
